This Privacy Notice provides you with details on we collect and process your personal data through your use of our website sewingforaliving.com. Here at SewingForALiving, we believe that user privacy and data protection are human rights and that it is our duty to protect the personal data we collect. We will never spam you or sell, make public and otherwise misuse your personal information.

Types of information we may collect about you, why we collect it and on what lawful ground

When you use or sign up for our services, we may collect the following information about you:

  1. Tracking site visitations (Google Analytics)

We use Google Analytics to track user interactions. We use this data to better understand how many visitors we get to our website, how they find us and the way they navigate through the website.

GA collects data that includes, but is not limited to, your IP, device, operating system and browser, but we can’t personally identify you with this information. The IP address that GA records can be used to identify you, but Google does not grant us access to it. We consider Google to be a third party data processor.

  1. Comments

If you choose to make a comment on a post or page on this website, you are going to be asked to provide your name, email address and possibly your website URL.

These will be stored in our website database along with your computer IP and time and date of the comment. The information that is going to be displayed in public on the website is your actual comment and your name. If you have a Gravatar account, associated with the email you provide, your photo will be displayed next to your name in the comments section as well.

Your comment and the personal data associated with it will remain on this website until we remove the comment or we remove the post or page you’ve commented on. If you want the comment and the data associated with it deleted, email us at support@sewingforaliving.com using the same email you’ve entered when submitting the comment.

  1. Contact forms and email links

If you choose to contact us through our Contact us form or email links, none of your personal information will be stored on this website or passed to a third party data processor. We may keep a record of our communication with you if we think it is in our best interest.

  1. Our shop

When you make an order in our shop, we collect your full name and email address. We need those to fulfil our obligation according to the contract.

We may use your email to contact you regarding your order or to send your digital file in cases of problems with the download. This applies to the free patterns as well.

We can also use your name and email to recognize you as the person who made the Paypal payment.

None of your personal information will be passed to third-party processors or used for any other purposes except the ones above.

If you made an order and requested an invoice, we are obligated by law to keep your information for a period of 50 years for tax and legal purposes. Therefore, we cannot delete the data you’ve submitted in the order form before that by your request. If you made an order for a free product or you didn’t request an invoice and you want your information deleted, please contact us at support@sewingforaliving.com through the email you’ve used to make the order.

We do not process payments. Payments are processed by Paypal according to their data processing policy.

  1. Email newsletter

If you choose to subscribe to our email newsletter, your email address will be forwarded to MadMimi, which is our mailing service provider. We consider MadMimi to be a third party data processor.

The email address you provide will not be stored in our website database. It will remain in MadMimi database until we continue to use their services for email marketing or until you unsubscribe or request to be removed from it.

You can unsubscribe by using the unsubscribe link in every email we send you or by requesting removal via email. If you want us to remove you from our list via email, please use the email you used to subscribe.

While you keep your subscription to our newsletter, you are going to receive periodical (approximately twice a month) newsletter-styled emails from us about our latest articles as well as some occasional offers for our products or partner’s deals that are related to the topics we discuss on our website and that we think that might be of interest to you.

Our lawful ground of processing your personal data to send you marketing communications is either your consent or our legitimate interests (namely to grow our business).

  1. Push Notifications

If you choose to subscribe to our push notifications list, you do so by clicking on the “Allow” button when asked if you want to receive notifications about new updates on the top of your screen. We use push notifications only to inform you about the newest content on SewingForALiving.com

The information we collect about you includes, but is not limited to, the type of your device and your location.

If you want to unsubscribe from our notifications list, please follow the steps provided here, since they are different for each browser that you are using.

Please, note that since we do not collect data about your IP or Email address or anything that might link you to your Notifications subscription, we can’t identify you and delete you from this list. How we use your information

We use the information you have provided to us in the following ways:

  • To send you our newsletter from time to time, when we have something exciting to share
  • To notify you of new content through push notifications
  • To inform you about changes to our service
  • To process orders in our shop
  • We may also use your data to provide information about goods and services from third parties which may be of interest to you. If you do not want to be contacted about such goods or services by third parties, please email support@sewingforaliving.com to opt out from receiving any such communications.

We may disclose your information if we feel legally obligated to do so in case that the law requires it or to protect our legal rights. This includes information exchange with other companies in order to protect fraud and reduce credit risk.

We may disclose your information to a third party in case we get acquired by another company, in which case we need to disclose your information to the prospect or buyer.

We do not collect any Sensitive Data about you. Sensitive data refers to data that includes details about your race or ethnicity, religious or philosophical beliefs, sex life, sexual orientation, political opinions, trade union membership, information about your health and genetic and biometric data. We do not collect any information about criminal convictions and offences.

Our Service does not address anyone under the age of 13 (“Children”).

We do not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children under 13. If you are a parent or guardian and you are aware that your Children has provided us with Personal Information, please contact us. If we become aware that we have collected Personal Information from a children under age 13 without verification of parental consent, we take steps to remove that information from our servers.

How we store your information

On this blog, we store two types of personal data about you:

  1. If you post a comment

When you make a comment on a post on our website, you are asked to provide your name and email. We store that info in our website database until the comment or the post to which it relates is deleted.

  1. If you make an order for a free or a paid digital pattern in our shop

When you complete the order form in order to download a pattern in our store, you are asked to provide your full name and email address. We store that data in our database and take measures to keep the data secure and protected.

We do not get access to or store any payment details as they are processed by Paypal.

For marketing purposes, we store your personal data with third-party services as listed below.

How long we store your information

In most cases, we store your information for a period of 6 months. The expiry of cookies is described in our Cookies policy. If you consent to subscribe to our mailing list, we store your information until you unsubscribe from that list. If you place an order in our shop and require an invoice, we are obligated by law to keep your information for a period of 50 years for legal and tax purposes. If you submit your details through the order form on our website in order to download a file for free, we store your information for a period of six months. All traffic between this website and your browser is encrypted and delivered over HTTPS.

Third parties

We use several third-party data processors to process personal data on our behalf. 

Countries outside of the European Economic Area (EEA) do not always offer the same levels of protection to your personal data, so European law has prohibited transfers of personal data outside of the EEA unless the transfer meets certain criteria.
