Girls Dress Patterns – Pleated Dress PDF 16

The Girls Pleated Dress was created on a request. My daughter was invited to a birthday party at the kinder garden and we had to come up with something that is comfortable and beautiful at the same time. She loved it and all the girls there loved it too!

She liked it so much she wears it all the time now. So if you are looking for girls dress patterns, why don’t you try this one.

Materials for the Girls Pleated Dress Pattern

Fabric: Use light to medium-weight jersey knit with or without stretch. The pattern has enough ease so a more rigid fabric will also do without the need of adding a zipper. If you choose to use a fabric with more stretch, you can adjust the size according to the size chart for a better fit. The size chart is for body measurements, not for finished garment measurements.

Optional: use a single fold bias tape in a matching color for the neckline. I prefer to use a tape, cut from the main fabric.

Fabric requirements:

Use light to medium-weight knitted fabric with or without stretch. Any type of double knit, interlock knit, Ponte de Roma, etc. will do. You will need 1 meter/yard of fabric if it is at least 1.6 yards/ 1.5 meters wide.

Tools:

  • Regular sewing machine. Use a stitch that tolerates the stretching of the knit fabric (zig-zag or other according to your sewing machine manual)
  • Stretch or ballpoint needle

Optional:

  • Serger machine
  • Coverstitch machine or a twin needle for hems at the sleeves and the skirt

Detailed sewing instructions are provided in the pattern description.

Fabric question: it says I should use a knit fabric with or without stretch. Isn’t knit always stretch? Or could I use a plain old non-stretch cotton for dress?

    • Daniela Post author

Hi, Anna. The fabric for this pattern should be knitted. It could be with or without added lycra, for example, 100% cotton Jersey or 95/5 cotton/lycra (2 or 4-way stretch). Woven fabrics are not suitable.
Thanks for the heads up, I’ll go and add up to the fabric recommendations.

Ok, I’m probably just such a novice and stupid haha, but where is the pattern for the sleeves? I don’t see it on the sheet. Thanks!

    • Daniela Post author

Hi Allison, the sleeve pattern piece is on tales 2, 3, 4, 6 and 7, right next to the bodice. Did you check the layers option to see if your size is ticked on? There should be an eye icon right next to it.

      • Allison Sculthorpe

For some reason I thought that was the skirt of the dress; i shouldn’t printed the pattern instead of just looking at it on my phone. I’m such a novice. Thanks very much! I’ve cut out the pattern and am getting started now. Thanks again!

Thanks for this pattern! It was my first time making pleats and I would have liked some more details on that. The instructions were clear and easy to follow.

    Hey there,

Great article and interesting website. I had absolutely no idea you could download sewing dress instructions.

My wife does a little sewing, but not very confident at it. Think a website like this would be very useful for her.

Have you ever tackled South-Asian clothes, i.e. Pakistani/indian? I know my wife would definitely be interested in downloading templates for them.

    • Daniela

I’m glad you like it! I’m sorry but I’m not very familiar with South-Asian clothes. But if she is interested in East European ones, let me know. 🙂

Anyway, I have some video and written tutorials on the blog that she might find useful to build confidence as a sewist.

      Greetings!

What an adorable dress! Firstly, I didn’t even know that it was possible to download sewing patterns so I was very excited to come across this website and I was certainly captured by the beauty in this particular design.

I like the fact that highlight the level of experience that is required in order to be successful with the sewing pattern. And the fact that you include the download link makes it even easier!

Such an awesome well laid out blog and article. Thank you for sharing!
