  • Layers feature (print only the sizes you need).
  • You can print on both A4 and US letter size paper.

Skill Level:  Beginner, sewing with knits.

 Fabric requirements:

Fabric: Use medium-weight stretchy knit fabric with approximately 5% elastane like cotton, rayon, Ponte de Roma, etc. Woven fabrics are not suitable for this pattern. The size chart is for body measurements, not finished garment measurements.

You are going to need approximately 2 meters/ 2.2 yards of fabric for smaller sizes and 2.5 meters/2.7 yards for the bigger ones. The fabric should be at least 1.6 yards/ 1.5 meters wide. If you work with fabric that is more narrow, check the amount you need by positioning the details of the fabric before you cut.

Tools:

  • Regular sewing machine. Use a zigzag stitch (or any type of stitch that tolerates stretching according to your machine manual) to join the details.

Optional:

  • Serger machine. You can choose to join the details with a serger.

Sizes: US 2 to 22, EU 8-24  (See the Size Chart below for detailed measurements).

    Hi Daniella,
I love the Harlem jumpsuit look. I have tried to download the pattern and instructions to no avail. I am using a small screened cell phone and cannot find add to cart. Can you help.
Also, does this have spaghetti straps or elastic to hold up bodice? I can’t wait to make this with pockets in a floral knit. Thank you for sharing this.

      Hi there,
Instead of using the PayPal buttons, click on “add to cart” which is located above. Then, go to the cart and “proceed to checkout”. No credit card required, just download the pattern. When downloaded, the pattern opens as a PDF file (in Adobe Acrobat Reader) and you can print.

This is awesome, I am just starting to learn how to sew and i can use all the help I can get. I have tried pants and shorts and both can be a little complicated. Do you have pockets in this bottom? Are you going to do a pocket tutorial?

    • Daniela

Hey Genevieve, pockets would look great on this jumpsuit, thank you for this suggestion. This is a very simple beginners project, so I thought I would leave pockets out of it. Not that pockets are so difficult to make, but some sewist are scared to try. I am going to make a pocket tutorial on knitted fabrics any time soon, so make sure to come back and check it out. 🙂

    Hi,
what a neat site for sewing lessons! I do sew occasionally only to repair or fix something, but I’ve always loved to make dresses of my own. The sewing tutorials are very useful. In the pattern for girl dresses, can I use a cotton material for lining? Thank you!

    • Daniela

Thank you, Sandy. You can definitely use cotton fabric for lining, just make sure to preshrink it. Otherwise, it would shrink after washing and deform the ready garment.
